The First Parliament

This painting, by Tom Roberts, shows the opening of the first Australian Parliament on 9 May, 1901. The location was the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, which was apparently the only place that could fit the massive number of guests. The man in the cocked hat is George V, still technically the Duke of Cornwall and York.

Cripes! Angus looks young!

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long

I'm sitting here smoking a Cuban cigar, drinking Belgian ale, and blogging about Oz. Life just doesn't get any better than this. I owe it all to the two finest young men Australia ever produced and to a damn good friend in Ohio. Yes, I'm a lucky old fecker!

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN - Australian Version

Sunset on the Werribee, near Bacchus Marsh

By Abraham Louis Buvelot, 1870.
As far as I'm concerned, the sun does rise and set on the Werribee. ;)

Why?

Well, why the hell not? Thanks to massive amounts of daily contact with two young Aussies, my world is a very different, and much brighter, place, so it's natural that I'd have a look at what the place has to offer. I'll admit I was surprised, not only by the beauty, but by the quality of the architecture. This one's going to be fun.
